A sickness?

I know a lot of people who have drug addictions, they continue to refer to it as a sickness. I do not understand how it could ever be considered a sickness when they are the ones who chose to put the drugs up their nose, in their lungs, in their arms, etc… I also don’t agree with people when they say that drug addictions are hereditary and run in the genes. I say this because I come from a family where my mom’s side has a lot of alcoholics and ice heads and my dad’s side were alcoholics and I do not suffer from alcoholism or any drug addictions for that matter, so I call bull shit. I believe that you are completely responsible for what you do to your body, you don’t have to do drugs if you don’t want to and I think before you start doing them you have complete control over what you want to do, I also think that if you want to quit something bad enough you can, all you need is your will power, determination and drive.
